“Sink Box’ hunting and “Market Hunting” have been outlawed for years. But when hunters made a living from “killin” ducks the sink box was a favorite way to hunt.
Today the closet thing to sink box hunting is layout boat hunting. Black Duck Outfitters Maryland duck hunting guides specialize in layout boat hunts for BOTH sea ducks and diver ducks.
Our layout boat hunts take place on the Chesapeake Bay and the lower Potomac River. We offer these hunts from November to January each year. They are VERY dependent on water and weather conditions! The way we do it is with BOTH layout boats and tender boats. Two guides are usually employed on these hunts. By using two guides it makes the large decoy rig and layout boat set up fast and the hunt very safe.
The cost for a layout boat hunt is a little more than our regular sea duck and diver duck hunting. BUT it is usually very fast” in your face” action and hunt that you and your friends will remember for a long time. If you have never layout boat hunted, contact us ASAP and set it up!!

What's Included: Boats, Decoys, Blinds, Professional licensed USCG Maryland Duck Hunting Guide, We meet at the boat ramp between 5:30 and 6:00 am and have you back to the ramp by noon
You'll Need:
- Maryland Hunting License w/Stamps, 3 day waterfowl license available
- Shells, we use number 3 or 4 in steel shot or equivalent
- Gun, we do not loan guns-NO EXCEPTIONS
- Appropriate Clothing for the Weather, a change of clothes is a good idea
- Waders, wet hunters are cold and miserable

Weather:
We can't guarantee weather or when the birds will fly, some things you just can't control. For water hunts, we reserve the right to reschedule or may offer you a field hunt option if the water is at a dangerous level due to heavy rain or winds. Your safety and the safety of our guides is our primary concern.
Deposits:
Deposits of 50% due at booking. Balance due when you arrive for your hunt. Due to limited availability and the advanced planning needed to ensure a quality trip, we are unable to refund any payments. We will be happy to Reschedule and answer any questions regarding this policy.
