Manitoba Hunting FAQ's
If you love Duck and Goose hunting, great food, and a great time with your friends
COME TO MANITOBA THIS FALL!!
Q: How many people can you hunt?
Our lodge sleeps 21 hunters, BUT WE NEVER HAVE over 12 hunters per day in camp!
Q: What are the seasons?
We start the last week in September and hunt till November 1
Q: When is the best time to come?
That is a GREAT question! All the weeks harvest about the same amount of birds. It is just colder in late October!
Q: Do I need a passport?
Yes you MUST have a passport!
Q: Is it hard to get guns into Canada?
No we will send you all the forms and info.
Q: What about ammo?
Customs allows you to bring in 200 shells. We have shells at the lodge for sale, but most hunters stop at SIR or the sporting goods store in town and get a case.
Q: How do I get a license and how much?
Call the Manitoba DNR @ 1-800-214-6497 and get it from them 1-2 mths BEFORE you leave. Cost is approx $150.00 US
Q: What do I need to bring?
A love for waterfowl hunting and a BIG appetite!
We will send you a complete information package once you have booked your hunt.
Q: What shells should I bring?
We use # 3-4 for ALL our ducks and BB-3 on geese.
Q: What are the Accommodations?
The Black Duck Lodge was built by the Hextall hockey family in the 50’s. It is very clean and comfortable! Just an old fashion hunting lodge complete with all the waterfowl mounts, wood paneling and a GREAT wood stove. The girls will feed you like KINGS and watch out for the home made cookies, pies and cakes—they are addicting!
Q: Do you rent guns?
NO!!! We do not rent guns
Q: Can I bring my dog?
We welcome you to bring your trained retriever on your hunt, provided we know in advance that the dog will accompany you. For the safety of all hunters and the safety of your dog, all dogs must be steady to shot and be controlled 100% of the time. Unmanageable dogs will be immediately kenneled for the remainder of the hunt. Single hunters may not bring a dog if they are hunting with other hunters/groups.
Q: Can I bring my KID?
YES!!!They must be 12 years old and have a hunter safety card.
Q: What Airport do I fly into?
Winnipeg international airport
Q: What is the weather?
We hope it is a little cold and windy to make the birds move!!
But the temperature is 20-70 every day. It may even snow on us!
Q: What days do you hunt?
We hunt every day!
Q: Do you combine parties?
Yes and no. We need 4 or more for our field hunts. Duck hunts are one guide per 2-3 hunters!
Q: Can we use our calls?
YES bring your calls!!
Q: Do the guides shoot?
NO Manitoba guides are not allowed by LAW to have a gun while guiding.
Q: Tipping? How Much?
The norm is $25-50 per hunter per day for the guides. Our guides spend days getting ready before the season and hours getting ready before your hunt As for Corry and her mom at the lodge $10-20 per day per hunter.
