Seasons and Hunting Dates:
The Manitoba duck and goose hunting season runs from the last week in September through the end of October. We plan to hunt until November 1st. After early November snows start, the birds are headed south.
Hunts:
Traditional Manitoba Delta Marsh Duck Hunts are in wooden boats with one Manitoba duck hunting guide and 2-3 clients. It is against the law to use ANY type of boat motors in The Delta Marsh, so the guides will be rowing you out to the “duck hole.” Field hunts for Snows/Blues, Canada geese, and Ducks are from layout blinds with large decoy spreads and are usually one guide per 4-5 clients. Lake hunts for Ducks and Geese are from our larger boats with Beavertail Mud Motors and will be on either a shallow lake or, weather permitting, Lake Manitoba. We will arrange a variety of hunts to suit the interests of your group, and generally do not mix parties unless you have less than 4 hunters. Please keep in mind that some water hunts are dependent upon calm weather for safety reasons.
Game:
The Manitoba Delta Marsh is legendary for its World Class Duck Hunting! We shoot mixed bags of ducks including Mallard, Pintail, Teal, Widgeon, Bluebill, Redhead, Canvasbacks, ...just about every duck that travels the Central and Mississippi Flyways! (limit of 8 per day). Our Canadian duck and goose guides have been hunting the marsh their whole lives and know where these birds are. Our Field goose hunting is also fantastic. We shoot Canada Geese (limit of 5 per day) plus lots of Snow Geese (limit of 20 per day) and mallards in the field. All birds shot will be processed and you can take them home (up to your state's possession limit), we can cook them, or donate them. We don't believe in wasting game. Local religious colonies and first nation groups will be happy to have any extra birds.
Weather:
The weather in Canada can vary greatly from morning and evening and from day to day. Temperatures can go from 20 degrees in the early morning hours to 70 degrees or higher in the afternoon. It may even snow in September!
Location:
We are located in the heart of Manitoba’s Legendary Delta Marsh, just 60 minutes from the Winnipeg airport, near Portage La Prairie. This prime location offers the best hunting and makes the most of your vacation time by eliminating long drives to and from the airport.
Accommodations:
You will be staying at the famous Black Duck Lodge, home of Manitoba Canada duck hunting memories for generations of hunters. Comfortable lodging and meals are provided. Lodging is in the main lodge. Each bedroom sleeps 2-3 hunters. We also have 2 cabins for large parties if needed! Our lodge and cabins will sleep up to 21 hunters, BUT we limit it to a MAX of 10-12 hunters in the lodge at one time.. Over 150 gallons of hot water make sure you can ALWAYS take a hot shower! Bringing a Dog?
We welcome you to bring your trained retriever on your hunt, provided we know in advance that the dog will accompany you. For the safety of all hunters and the safety of your dog, all dogs must be steady to shot and be controlled 100% of the time. Unmanageable dogs will be immediately kenneled for the remainder of the hunt. Single hunters may not bring a dog if they are hunting with other hunters/groups.
